The Best Beach Workouts To Get You In Shape For Summer

The Best Beach Workouts To Get You In Shape For Summer

  |     |   Your Guide To Living In Santa Monica

The weather is warming up and the sun is shining, which can only mean one thing: summer is almost here! With summer comes beach season. Whether you live in a Santa Monica apartment near the ocean or are taking a tropical vacation, a sandy beach is a great place to get your workout in. From bodyweight exercises to cardio workouts, there's something for everyone here. All you'll need is a beach towel and some sunscreen, and you're good to go!

1. Bodyweight Exercises

Bodyweight exercises are a great way to get in shape, and they can be done anywhere – including the beach! Try some basic moves like push-ups, squats, and sit-ups, or get creative with more challenging exercises like burpees and planks. If you're new to working out, start with a few reps of each exercise and gradually increase as you get stronger.

2. Cardio Workouts

If you're looking to get your heart rate up, try a cardio workout at the beach. Go for a run along the shoreline or try some sprints on the sand. You can also bring along a jump rope or a set of dumbbells to add some extra resistance. If you're feeling really adventurous, try swimming in the ocean!

3. Beach Yoga

Yoga is a great way to relax and stretch your muscles, and it's even better when done in the fresh air. If you're new to yoga, there are plenty of beginner-friendly poses that can be done on the sand. As you get more comfortable, you can try more challenging poses like inversions and arm balances. Don't forget to pack your yoga mat!

4. Pilates

Pilates is another great workout for toning your muscles and improving your flexibility. There are many different types of Pilates exercises that can be done on the beach, so it's easy to find a routine that works for you. You certainly don't need a reformer for Pilates – a beach towel will do just fine.

5. HIIT Workouts

HIIT, or high-intensity interval training, is a great way to burn calories and get your heart rate up. If you're short on time, HIIT workouts are the perfect solution. Try doing bursts of cardio exercises like sprints or jump squats in between periods of rest. You can even add in some bodyweight exercises for an extra challenge.

6. Walk in the sand

Though often thought of as a leisure activity, walking in the sand can actually be quite a workout. The sand provides resistance with every step, which helps to tone muscles and burn calories. In addition, the uneven surface of the sand challenges your balance and coordination. As a result, a beach stroll can give you a full-body workout that is both invigorating and relaxing.

No matter what type of workout you choose, make sure to stay hydrated and take breaks as needed. Don't forget to have fun! Working out at the beach should be enjoyable, so make the most of it. With these beach workouts, you'll be in shape for summer in no time.
